Some of the most commonly used spanners used by people are as follows:

Open end Spanners– This type of spanner is basically a single piece wrench and has openings in U shape. It is used to grip two opposite sides of nut or bolt. It is normally a tool with two open ends with each side having an opening of different size. Both of them have an alignment of fifteen degrees from the handle of the wrench. The design of wrench is very efficient and allows a bigger range of movement.

This encircle opening is the best for working on six sided or hexagonal nuts or bolts as box end spanner provides you better grip on all the sides of a fastener. This wrench is available in many different sizes and can be used over square shaped nut heads.

Combined spanners- This type of spanner has dual ends and both ends have different designs and shapes. One end has a box end type design and the other end has an open end type design. The best thing is that despite of different shapes and design of both the ends, both of them easily fit the same sized nut heads.

Podger spanners- Podger spanners are basically a short bar with one end pointed and the other end with a design of wrench. The wrench end is used for tightening and loosening the bolts, but the pointed part is used for alignment of hole of nuts and bolts during the bolting operation.

Adjustable spanners- The adjustable spanner is an amazing and very useful tool as it can be used on a wide range of sizes of heads of nuts and bolts. It has a movable jaw, which can be adjusted according to the size of the nut you need to operate on.
