Basic bolting tools used in most of the industries

Posted on: December 9, 2014

Bolting is a very prominent and very common process that is performed in most of the industries on a daily basis. It is important to take care that the bolting is performed properly so that maximum safety can be assured at the workplace. Also, the quality of bolting operation determines the quality of the products and services. Major companies that use bolting as a major operation are automobile companies, product assembly plants, workshops, oil and gas pipelines, etc. Let us see various bolting tools that are used by most of the industries for better precision and efficiency.

Impact wrenches

Impact wrenches are major tools that are used extensively in industries where you need fast and heavy work but precision is secondary. The impact wrenches use a very high impact on the fastener to give them a rotational motion so that they could be tightened or loosened. Impact wrenches are used along with specially designed impact sockets that are made from high speed carbon steel, which are meant to bear the heavy impact forces that they under during various processes. If you use normal sockets with impact sockets, they will be easily deformed and shattered. When the sockets shatter, the debris possesses a great safety threat, hence it is necessary for safety reasons to use impact sockets along with the impact wrenches. Impact wrenches are available in three main types that are electric impact wrenches, pneumatic impact wrenches and hydraulic impact wrenches. Impact wrenches are not very accurate as there is no means provided with them to determine the force applied on the fasteners.

Torque wrenches

For better accuracy and more efficiency, torque wrenches are used. The torque wrenches are the most accurate and efficient among all types of wrenches. The torque wrenches use a high amplitude torque, which is a type of radial force, which results in circular motion of the fastener. The torque wrenches are provided with an analogue or digital display, which is used for measuring and determining the amount of torque that has been applied on the fastener. This feature of torque wrenches allows you to know how much torque has been applied on the fastener so you can stop at the right time to avoid over-tightening of the fastener. The torque wrenches are also available in the market in three different types that are electric, pneumatic and hydraulic wrenches. The hydraulic torque wrenches provide you the most accurate and the most silent operation without creating much noise.

Nut splitter

Sometimes, you might have a situation called a jammed nut or fastener. In such situation, hammering is the most common way used to move a jammed nut, but it can damage the nut head and the assembly near the nut. Also, hammering produces sparks, which is not good for places involving inflammable items like gas and oil. Nut splitter can remove a jammed nut in very small time and without causing any damage to the assembly and without producing any sparks.
