Important factors for proper working of your boiler

For most of the industries, their tools and equipments are very crucial for proper and efficient working. In industries like textile mills, sugar factories, alcohol breweries, etc., a boiler is the most important and crucial equipment. It produces a very high degree of pressure and temperature, which are necessary for most of the processes in these industries. In order to stay profitable and run efficiently, these industries need to carryout regular maintenance of the boilers so that they keep running for a long time without causing any problem. Ignoring maintenance of boilers can lead to serious accidents and also economic losses to the. Imagine loss of hours of work due to a breakdown in your boiler.

In addition to proper maintenance, appropriate operation is equally important and crucial for proper working of your boiler. If the boiler operator on your boiler is not well qualified and experienced enough to operate the boiler, he can cause serious damage to the equipment and also it can lead to very serious accidents leading to loss of life and work. When you are hiring a boiler operator, make sure that he holds a valid boiler operating license, proper qualification certificate and ample amount of experience.

When it comes to maintenance of the boiler, first thing is to clean the boiler tubes. The boiler tubes get clogged by sludge and other foreign particles due to continuous working. Due to clogging, the tubes are not able to deliver the maximum performance, hence boiler starts consuming more fuel leading to economic loss of the company.

Tube cleaning is done through the use of various chemicals and cleaning solutions. Use of metal brushes with hard bristles is also common in smaller boiler. These methods loosen the hard sludge at the inner surface of the tubes, and then a high pressure water jet is used for flushing the sludge out of the tube. This is called manual cleaning of boiler tubes, which is only feasible for boilers with smaller capacities. Manual cleaning for larger boilers will take very long time which would not be economical. For boilers with larger capacities such as sugar factory boilers, more advanced tube cleaning tools are used such as electric, pneumatic and hydraulic tube cleaners as they take very less time to clean the tubes of the larger boilers.

Apart from tube cleaning, other tasks involved in boiler maintenance are tube pulling, tube expansion, tube facing, joint testing, etc. At the end of the maintenance schedule, the entire boiler is inspected for any type of malfunctioning or defects in the components. If there is any defect found in the boiler or its components, they must be repaired or replaced immediately. Unless the defects are not rectified, the use of the boiler must be avoided. Operated a boiler with defected components can be dangerous for both the life and property.
